Our kids (6 and 8) took to the Razor A3 scooters immediately and had a blast scooting around Central Park for hours. They fold easily and are easy to tuck into a stuffed trunk, carry on the subway, take in a cab, keep in a hotel room or small apartment (the scooters, not the kids).
